SSC CGL Direction and Distance question with solution
Direction and DistanceModerateSSC CGL 2024
Karan walks 8 km towards the east, then turns and walks 15 km towards the south. How far is Karan from the starting point?
- (A)23 km
- (B)17 km
- (C)7 km
- (D)16 km
Correct answer: (B) 17 km
The two legs of the walk are at right angles, so the shortest distance from the start is the hypotenuse: √(8² + 15²) = √(64 + 225) = √289 = 17 km.
Shortcut: 8-15-17 is a Pythagorean triple.
