About SSC MTS

The MTS examination recruits Class 10 pass candidates to Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff posts in central government offices and to Havaldar posts in CBIC and CBN.

The computer-based examination is held in two sessions on the same day. Session I covers numerical and mathematical ability and reasoning; Session II covers general awareness and English.

Computer Based Examination

90 questions across two sessions of 45 minutes each. In the actual examination there is no negative marking in Session I (Numerical Ability and Reasoning), while Session II (General Awareness and English) carries a penalty of 1 mark per wrong answer. Online practice here applies the Session II penalty to the whole paper.

SSC MTS eligibility

Candidates must have passed Class 10 (matriculation). The age limit is generally 18 to 25 years for MTS and 18 to 27 years for Havaldar and some MTS posts. Exact vacancies, age limits and relaxations change with every cycle — always confirm them in the official notification on ssc.gov.in.

SSC MTS syllabus

Reasoning: analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, ranking, syllogism, Venn diagrams and non-verbal reasoning.

Quantitative Aptitude: number system, percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time-speed-distance, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry and data interpretation.

English: vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms), spotting errors, fill in the blanks, sentence improvement, active/passive voice, direct/indirect speech, cloze test and reading comprehension.

General Awareness: history, geography, polity, economy, general science, static GK and current affairs.

What is the SSC MTS Computer Based Examination exam pattern?

SSC MTS Computer Based Examination has 90 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Each question carries 3 marks, and 1 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. The sections are Quantitative Aptitude (20), General Intelligence and Reasoning (20), General Awareness (25) and English Language (25).

Is there negative marking in SSC MTS?

Yes. In Computer Based Examination, 1 marks are deducted for every wrong answer, while unattempted questions are not penalised. Online practice on SSC Rank applies the same deduction.
