SSC GD Direction and Distance question with solution
Direction and DistanceModerateSSC GD 2024
Riya walks 10 km towards the east, then turns and walks 24 km towards the south. How far is Riya from the starting point?
- (A)26 km
- (B)34 km
- (C)14 km
- (D)27 km
Correct answer: (A) 26 km
The two legs of the walk are at right angles, so the shortest distance from the start is the hypotenuse: √(10² + 24²) = √(100 + 576) = √676 = 26 km.
Shortcut: 10-24-26 is a Pythagorean triple.
