Correct answer: (B) 62
Squaring both sides: (x + 1/x)² = x² + 1/x² + 2 = 64. Therefore x² + 1/x² = 64 − 2 = 62.
Shortcut: x² + 1/x² = k² − 2 when x + 1/x = k.
