SSC CGL Compound Interest question with solution
Compound InterestModerateSSC CGL 2024
Find the compound interest on ₹12,000 at 20% per annum for 2 years, compounded annually.
- (A)₹4,920
- (B)₹5,280
- (C)₹4,800
- (D)₹5,220
Correct answer: (B) ₹5,280
Amount after 2 years = 12000 × (1 + 20/100)² = 17280. Compound interest = amount − principal = 17280 − 12000 = 5280. Note that the simple interest for the same period would be only 4800.
Shortcut: For 2 years, effective rate = 2r + r²/100 = 44% of 12000.
