SSC CGL Direction and Distance question with solution
Direction and DistanceModerateSSC CGL 2023
Vikram walks 10 km towards the south, then turns and walks 24 km towards the west. How far is Vikram from the starting point?
- (A)28 km
- (B)25 km
- (C)26 km
- (D)34 km
Correct answer: (C) 26 km
The two legs of the walk are at right angles, so the shortest distance from the start is the hypotenuse: √(10² + 24²) = √(100 + 576) = √676 = 26 km.
Shortcut: 10-24-26 is a Pythagorean triple.
