SSC CGL Direction and Distance question with solution
Direction and DistanceModerateSSC CGL 2023
Rahul walks 6 km towards the south, then turns and walks 8 km towards the east. How far is Rahul from the starting point?
- (A)11 km
- (B)10 km
- (C)9 km
- (D)12 km
Correct answer: (B) 10 km
The two legs of the walk are at right angles, so the shortest distance from the start is the hypotenuse: √(6² + 8²) = √(36 + 64) = √100 = 10 km.
Shortcut: 6-8-10 is a Pythagorean triple.
