SSC CGL Time, Speed and Distance question with solution

Time, Speed and DistanceModerateSSC CGL 2024

A train 420 m long is running at 54 km/h. How much time will it take to cross a pole?

  1. (A)25 seconds
  2. (B)28 seconds
  3. (C)8 seconds
  4. (D)56 seconds

Correct answer: (B) 28 seconds

Convert the speed to metres per second: 54 × 5/18 = 15 m/s. To cross a pole the train covers its own length, so time = 420 ÷ 15 = 28 seconds.

Shortcut: km/h × 5/18 = m/s; time = length ÷ speed.
