SSC CGL Time, Speed and Distance question with solution

Time, Speed and DistanceModerateSSC CGL 2024

A train 275 m long is running at 90 km/h. How much time will it take to cross a pole?

  1. (A)15 seconds
  2. (B)11 seconds
  3. (C)3 seconds
  4. (D)22 seconds

Correct answer: (B) 11 seconds

Convert the speed to metres per second: 90 × 5/18 = 25 m/s. To cross a pole the train covers its own length, so time = 275 ÷ 25 = 11 seconds.

Shortcut: km/h × 5/18 = m/s; time = length ÷ speed.
