SSC CGL Time, Speed and Distance question with solution

Time, Speed and DistanceModerateSSC CGL 2024

A train 110 m long is running at 36 km/h. How much time will it take to cross a pole?

  1. (A)22 seconds
  2. (B)8 seconds
  3. (C)11 seconds
  4. (D)3 seconds

Correct answer: (C) 11 seconds

Convert the speed to metres per second: 36 × 5/18 = 10 m/s. To cross a pole the train covers its own length, so time = 110 ÷ 10 = 11 seconds.

Shortcut: km/h × 5/18 = m/s; time = length ÷ speed.
