SSC CGL Time, Speed and Distance question with solution
Time, Speed and DistanceModerate
A train 135 m long is running at 54 km/h. How much time will it take to cross a pole?
- (A)9 seconds
- (B)3 seconds
- (C)18 seconds
- (D)13 seconds
Correct answer: (A) 9 seconds
Convert the speed to metres per second: 54 × 5/18 = 15 m/s. To cross a pole the train covers its own length, so time = 135 ÷ 15 = 9 seconds.
Shortcut: km/h × 5/18 = m/s; time = length ÷ speed.
